On June 26, 2013 Naturescape Artist, & Educator, Beth Young came into KZSC to talk with Nada Miljkovic about her book, The Naturescaping Workbook: A Step-by-Step Guide for Bringing Nature to Your Backyard.
Beth wrote the book to teach homeowners how to create a very satisfying home landscape by working with nature’s awesome powers, eliminating the need for synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and excessive watering. You can buy this book online at Amazon.com or the book’s website.
Beth is the owner of the landscape design business, Beth Young Garden Design. Her firm offers many services from consultations to complete construction plans. She also lectures, gives seminars, and workshops.

Drummer, Rob Hart, of the Rob Hart Trio came onto KZSC’s Artist on Art to talk about his music and the upcoming release of the CD, 3000 Roads of 10 Worlds.
The Rob Hart Trio will be playing at Yoshi’s Oakland Jazz Club, July 1, 2013, in celebration of the release of 3000 Roads of 10 Worlds. The Yoshi’s show will feature many musicians and special guest Kai Eckhardt for a dedication to long-time band mate and recently passed, John Seppela.

June 5th, PhD student (completing her second year at UCSC), game maker and crafter, Kate Compton came on the radio to talk about her research and practice.
Kate was in the game industry for five years working on such games as Spore and SimCity, gaining mastery of procedural content generation and simulation techniques, before returning to school. She is also an enthusiastic game jammer, prototyper, and inventor of novel physical interfaces for computing. She does a lot of crafting, sewing, art, and baking, traditionally women’s activities, as well as a bit of carpentry. A lot of her research at UCSC is driven by synthesizing crafting with game technologies. She does a lot of work with the laser cutter and 3D printing. For instance, Kate made this pendant-maker iApp.

On June 3, 2013, brand spanking new PhD graduate at UCSC’s Games and Playable Media Center, Mike Treanor came into the KZSC studio to talk with Nada Miljkovic on Artist on Art.
Mike will begin his teaching this fall at the American University in Washington DC and developing a game department.
Mike is a developer and theorist. He was researching in the Expressive Intelligence Studio which is dedicated to exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, art and design. A major thrust of this work is advanced AI for video games.

On June 3rd, Artist, Painter, Poet, Philosopher and brand new UCSC graduate, Sara True was the guest on KZSC’s Artist on Art to talk about about her two, one-person exhibitions, “I Guess This is Life” at the Eduardo Carrillo Senior Gallery in the Elena Baskin Visual Arts and at Santa Cruz Rehearsal Studios, “Don’t Bleed so Loud I can’t Hear the TV”.
The Santa Cruz Rehearsal Studios show reception was June 7th @ 118 Coral Street in downtown Santa Cruz. The show will be up for the month of June.

On May 31, 2013, Santa Cruz Poet Robert Sward spoke with Nada Miljkovic about his poetry reading at the Bookshop Santa Cruz on June 5, 2013 as a part of the Phren-Z’s Live Reading Issue 6. Phren-Z (pronounced fren-zee) is a quarterly online literary magazine dedicated to showcasing Santa Cruz writers. The periodical is a publication of Santa Cruz Writes, a grass roots organization dedicated to promoting the local literary community.
Robert joins other poets and authors in the line-up for Phren-Z’s Issue 6, which includes fiction readings by Alta Ifland and Catherine Segurson, poetry by Danusha Lameris, Adela Najarro, Maggie Paul, and Ken Weisner. The evening will conclude with a non-fiction piece by FloodLight Feature author John Moir.
