Kirby Scudder

Art Activist, Curator and Creator, Kirby Scudder is a driving force behind much of the art happenings in Santa Cruz. He is the co-director and co-founder of the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts, producer of KUSP’s Art Studio and the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s Arts column and Artist Profile.

Dana Bagshaw & Rick Kuhn

Dana Bagshaw and Rick Kuhn came by the KZSC radio station to talk with Nada Miljkovic about the Drama production — Cell Talk:1410. Drawn from the writings of two women from 15th century England: the highly regarded mystic Julian of Norwich (played by Ali Eppy) and her younger contemporary Margery Kempe (Shannon Hemphill) — a more controversial figure, both then and now.

Outdoor performances with music from the period will be held on Sunday afternoons, 4:00 to 5:30 pm.
The American premiere of the UK award-winning play by local playwright Dana Bagshaw on premieres, Sunday Sept. 22: Calvary Episcopal, 532 Center Street, Santa Cruz.
Sept. 29: First Congregational, 900 High Street, Santa Cruz
October 6: St. Jude’s Episcopal, 20920 McClellan Road, Cupertino
October 13: St. Francis Episcopal, 1205 Pine Ave, Willow Glen

Suggested donations: $10 seniors/students, $15 general, at the door. Santa Cruz proceeds to the Homeless Shelter.

Catherine Segurson

Catamaran Literary Reader founding editor, Catherine Segurson, has many talents. She is a fiction writer, poet, painter, and videographer. She has worked for Zoetrope All-Story and ZYZZYVA literary magazines. Her writing has appeared in Coastal Living Magazine, Slow Trains, Taj Mahal Review, and Monterey Poetry Review, among others. Her artwork has been represented by galleries in San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

Catherine came onto Artist on Art, August 28, 2013 to talk about the Catamaran Literary Reader and the current kickstarter campaign to back the 4th issue full of literary and artistic content and bring the first volume to shore. See the video below.

Karen Toole


Artist, Painter, Curator and gallery owner of the Art Loft, Karen Toole came into KZSC to talk about her artistic practice as well as her new studio gallery on 1319 Pacific Avenue, second floor in Santa Cruz. Last first Friday for August, the Art Loft presented “Local Scenes” a group show, featuring the work of Shmuel Thaler, Patrick Woodman, Barbara Bailey Porter, Wayne Adachi and Karen Toole. Come out this Friday for September’s Santa Cruz Art Tour and see the new show. Karen and I talked about her recent community garden project on West Cliff. On Saturday, September 7th at 10am there will be volunteer weeding and planting day. Bring gloves, a little hand trowel and a little serrated knife. Don’t for get sun screen, hat and water bottle.
