The President of the Board of Directors at Santa Cruz Film Festival, Beth Gummere came into KZSC, October 30, 2013 to talk about the upcoming 12th event.

This Santa Cruz Film Festival is like never before. The opening is November 7, 2013 and runs through the 10th changing from usual Spring to Fall schedule. Plus with 40 plus movies showing, there are a bunch of fun events planned.

The Opening Night Party is at the Museum of Art and History (MAH), on Friday night, November 8 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the festival gets retro and hosts a Roller Disco Party at the Santa Cruz Roller Palladium. Then, Saturday November 9, the dudes abide at The Big Lebowski Party at the Pacific Arts Complex. Celebrating the classic Coen Brothers film with a costume contest, music, full bar, mini bowling and screenings of The Big Lebowski. This party is 21+.

James Robinson

October 23, 2013, Guitar Phenom, James Robinson played live on Artist on Art, and spoke about his upcoming live recording at Cascal Restaurant in Mountain View, November 16, 2013. The ” James Robinson Group has playing in this venue for ten years. In the studio, James was accompanied by Louis Carranza on percussion.

James Robinson also play @ The Hotel Paradox Solaire Restaurant + Bar in Santa Cruz, California plays every Wednesday 6:30-8:30.

Cascal Restaurant every Saturday, James plays at the 400 Castro Street, Mountain View.

Peter Limbrick

Professor of Film and Digital Media at UCSC, Peter Limbrick spoke with Nada Miljkovic about the 2 day Symposium, Unfixed Itineraries Exhibition: Innovative perspectives on Arab film and visual culture that he co-organized.

This symposium of scholars and artists takes place October 25 — 26, 2013 @ UCSC’s DARC and includes an exhibition of visual art at the Sesnon Art Gallery at UCSC. This event is free and open to the public.

This symposium on Arab film and visual culture emphasizes its plurality, the complex itineraries by which it is produced, and the multiple trajectories through which it can be experienced. Artists and scholars will visit from Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Europe and the US. Work presented will cover a wide area of forms, styles and thematic concerns. Dr. Bruce Damer & the Friends of Levity

Local Inventor, Scientist Artist, and Owner & Curator of the DigiBarn, Dr. Bruce Damer came onto Artist on Art July 31st to talk about Dr. Bruce’s Levity Zone.

Along with the Friends of Levity, Dr. Bruce is creating a visionary science and magic community by creating conversational podcasts, video, animation, imagery, art and commentary on the state and future of the human experiment in the cosmos. Tap into our streams and be transformed into another human being liberated into levity, wakened to wonder, and an able agent of the new world.

There is so much to talk with Bruce about his past work from the early stages of avatar creation and online education to NASA’s Mars Range Rover work to his Evogrid his PhD, Bruce is a local treasure.

Michael’s paintings are moments of time, each having its own story in the style of representational art a little Hopper in space and color and little Maxfield Parrish in terms of illumination.

The Fertile Circle – Raquel Cool, Leah Campbell & Miriam Zoll

Artist, Raquel Cool came onto Artists on Art on October 9, 2013 to talk about her new art work, the Fertile Circle, Egg Donors to Adoption and Everything in Between and working collaboratively with Leah Campbell and Miriam Zoll.The three women, Raquel Cool, Leah Campbell and Miriam Zoll, met online through the group co-founded by Raquel, We Are Egg Donors. They began discussing how their unique experiences with egg donation and in-vitro fertilization could weave together a narrative dictated, in part, from books they have written. Campell’s Single Infertile Female, and Zoll’s Cracked Open: Liberty, Fertility and the Pursuit of High-Tech Babies (Interlink-June 2013) were both released in 2013, and Cool’s memoir, Work in Progress: On Hauling Cadavers, Selling My Eggs, and Other Unlikely Jobs, will be released in 2014.

The Fertile Circle will feature two events. First, there will be an Art Reception with Dramatic readings and performance by Cool, Zoll, and Campbell; reception for ARO’s Body exhibition; and liquid nitrogen cocktails on Saturday, October  19, 2013, from 7pm-10pm, at Art Research Office (285 Water Street, Unit B, behind Vapor Cleaners.)

Second, there will be an Author Talk and Book Signing at the Capitola Book Cafe will host a public conversation by Miriam Zoll and Leah Campbell on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 7:30pm. Capitola Book Cafe is located on 1475 41st Ave, Capitola, CA.

Ann Osterman, James Aschbacher & Mickey Singer

jaOn October 2, 2013, the Santa Cruz Open Studio Team came onto Artist on Art to talk about their art work and the 28th Open Studio by the Arts Council of Santa Cruz. As the Director, this is the 10th Art Tour for Ann Ostermann. Wood sculptor, furniture artist, Mickey Singer is on the Board of Open Studio and has been for 5 years. Painter, Muralist, Spectra Art Artist – Teacher, James Aschbacher has been opening up his home for the Open Studio Art Tour for 23 years. He has also been on the Board for 9 years.

msThe Open Studio Art Tour of Santa Cruz is happening October 5 & 6 for the North County, the October 12 & 13 for the South County, with Encore Weekend, October 19 & 20 with 260 of the 300 artists opening their studio up to guests. See where the artists work, their materials and process and get to talk to them first hand.
