Papiba Godinho of SambaDá

Screen Shot 2013-11-27 at 9.25.37 AMPapiba Godinho is a local treasure who has been teaching Capoeira martial art form from Brazil  for the last 20 years and performing the lead vocals, percussion, cavaco and acoustic guitar for SambaDá the Afro-Brazilian Samba Funk Dance Band based in Santa Cruz for the last 15 years.

We talked about how Papiba came to Santa Cruz via Brazil and New York and the formation of his work in tandem with beginning of the 418 Project, the first non-profit art center in Santa Cruz, CA, 20 years ago. SBDC Central Coast – Getting the Most Our of You Advertising Dollars

On October 10, 2013, the Central Coast SBDC / BEC Brown Bag Series, sponsored by Doing What Matters and SBDC, hosted “Getting the Most of Your Advertising” roundtable presentation featuring Mike Blaesser, Ron Slack, Michael Olson, and Michael Hobson and moderated by John Sandidge. Each presenter shared his expertise and experiences with various media from newspaper advertising to cable TV and radio media outlets. If you are interested in advertising and marketing, there’s a lot of great advice given by the panel.

This monthly series is at the Santa Cruz Main Library Upstairs Community Room, 224 Church St, Santa Cruz. Free and open to the public. Registration required.

Celebrate the season at Shakespeare Santa Cruz with this heart-warming radio play rendition of the classic American film, It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, written by Joe Landry.  The Show runs November 15 – December 8, 2013 at the UCSC Theater Arts Mainstage.

TEDxSantaCruz Co-organizers Irene Tsouprake & Jon Luini

This event is free and open to the public and will feature former speakers and attendees, a chance to make a video pitch of an “idea worth spreading,” and a free taste of the TEDxSantaCruz Signature Cocktail, The BLAST. Annie Sprinkle & Beth Stephens

Performance Artists, Sexecologists, Eco-Artists, and long-term collaborators Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens came onto Artist on Art to talk about the upcoming West Coast Premiere of their movie, Goodbye Gauley Mountain, an Ecosexual Love Story. This takes place the opening night of the Santa Cruz Film Festival,  November 7, 2013 at 7pm at the Del Mar Theater.

Plus with 40 plus movies showing, there are a bunch of fun events planned.

Ian Bell

Screen shot 2013-10-31 at 9.46.36 AMLocal musician, guitarist and songwriter, Ian Bell came on Artist on Art to talk about the release of his first full length CD, Red Wine and Tears. It’s beautiful, full of amazing singing and interesting songwriting, like a young Richard Thompson with a better voice.

On October 30, 2013, Ian graced our KZSC station playing three live songs. The first song, What’s for Sale?, can be heard at 4″48″”.  Ian performs, Recipe to Disappear, at 10″06″” and Hand Me the Mirror at 18″08″”.
