Swiss-born game designer and artist, Alexei Othenin-Girard spoke with Nada Miljkovic, February 27, 2012 on Artist on Art and Gamers on Game. We had a great conversation covering a large number of topics on art and game theory. We also talked about Alexei’s path to studying at UCSC in the Digital Arts and New Media department and in the Games and Playable Media Group.
Alexei has produced video games (both casual and hardcore,) board games, educational games, and ARGs. His interests are in narrative architecture, emotional mechanics, and the affective power of games. After finishing his MFA, he plans to either return to professionally designing video games, or taking up high-seas piracy, whichever comes first.
To see and participate in Alexei graduating project, come to this year’s UCSC DANM MFA exhibition, I’ve Got Something On Your Mind. Exhibition dates are April 28-29 and May 3-6 with the fun not-to-be-missed party reception, Friday, May 4, 5:30 – 8:30PM. Gallery is located at The Digital Arts Research Center (DARC), off Meyer Drive near the Music Recital Hall and Theater Arts on West Campus and is open from 10AM – 4PM.
