Local Filmmaker Chris McGlivray came into KZSC to talk about his movie company, Six Finger Films and curating or putting the program together for the upcoming, MINIfestdestiny a mini film festival for films under five minutes long.
A MINIfestdestiny, a short film festival, will be at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History Friday, May 17th from 5-8pm as a part of the 3rd Friday May: Photography and Film Night.
Chris and I met when he spoke at NextSpace and presented a Next Talk entitled, the Syntax of Film. On the show, we talked the development of the independent film movement that exists through technology. This movement has made the democratization of the medium as well changed the language of film. For instance, the camera on your smartphone used to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. It also allows for experimentation that a few decades ago would have been cost prohibitive.
Chris described a couple of his current projects, Wild is the Night and Smoke and Mirrors. The link is to their Facebook Page. This Six Finger Films short film, Smoke and Mirrors, will be completed in June. The trailer is below.
