On the KZSC radio show for October 6th, I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the local painter and muralist James Aschbacher .  Once you’ve seen James’ work, you’ll recognize it forever.  Plus, he has ten murals in Santa Cruz County and several downtown on the corner of Cedar and Walnut, on Plaza Lane and at the corner of Bay and Mission (Bay View Elementary).

media paintings.

To see a twitvid by Allan Lundell of us viewing James’ art at his home for open studio, click here.

We spoke about his amazing career change at 40 years old/young from working in retail to becoming a self taught full-time artist.  FYI: He’ll be celebrating his birthday this Friday. Come by his Open Studio this weekend and wish him a happy birthday.  This weekend (10/10 and 10/11) is the second weekend of the 24th Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County Open Studio Art Tour.

This is James’ 18th Open Studio in which he is showing.

James spoke quite eloquently on his definition of art as well his process in art-making. He has a very unique process of creating his pieces that end up multi-media.

    Good Morning Nada,

Thanks again for producing such an interesting and informative show last night. We make a good team! I checked out your blog/radio site and was pleased with your comments and the posting of my painting, “Gotta Dance.” Thank you! I also visited your site and watched the video of your Mountain Arts Center performance. Very moving and you have such a wonderful and expressive voice! And I love your smile of satisfaction at the end of your piece – you really love what you do. Hope to see more of you in the near future and I will check out your web site more thoroughly when time allows.

    Cheers!

    James Aschbacher
