Ralph Abraham, UCSC Emeritus and Math Professor from 1968 until his retirement in 2020. You can find many youtube videos of Ralph Abraham in conversation with luniminaries such Terrance McKenna, Rupert Sheldridge in the movie, DMT: The Spirit Molecule is a 2010 documentary.


Professor Abraham came to UCSC in 1968 after a distinguished academic career beginning with earning  his Bachelors and Masters of Science  and Ph.D. (1960) from the University of Michigan.  In Mathematics. Before coming to UCSC, he held positions at the University of California, Berkeley, Columbia University and Princeton University as assistant professor of mathematics. He has also held visiting positions in Amsterdam, Paris, Warwick, Barcelona, Basel, and Florence. His time at Princeton University was very influential with the introduction of psychedelics, mathematics, leading to chaos theory.  He founded the Visual Math Institute at Santa Cruz in 1975; at that time, it was called the "Visual Mathematics Project".  You can find information about all the work Ralph has been doing at      www.ralph-abraham.org

I find it interesting that you end the 6th edition with a writing by Willard Harrison (Harrison Ford’s son) on Huey P. Newton, the African-American revolutionary and political activist co-founder of the Black Panther Party and who along with Bobby Seale crafted the Party's ten-point manifesto in 1966. Some of our listening audience may not be a aware of that Huey P. Newton was connected to Santa Cruz. 


Newton learned to read using Plato's Republic, which influenced his philosophy of activism. He went on to earn a PhD in social philosophy. 


What is Willard’s Harrison connection with Huey P. Newton?


Another book recently that was published is 

Schism: The Madness of Crowds, Toxicity of Social Media, Social Polarization, and Political Violence; A Cybernetic Approach is an analysis of political violence using cybernetics and catastrophe theory, with an historical introduction to these methods.
