Visual Artist and Educator, Claire Thorson came onto KZSC and Artists on Art to talk about her exhibition,”Desire and Inquiry: The Art of Claire Thorson” that is available for viewing on the Museo Eduardo Carrillo, one of the first on-line museums in the world.
When you enter the museum and go to the On-View Gallery page you will find two abstract paintings by Claire entitled “Rest” and “Last Touch”. Directly under the images is a wonderful essay by Tom Maderos. Underneath the essay, you will be able to see 16 more paintings and drawings.
Claire teaches, painting, design and life drawing at Cabrillo College as well as the Monterey Peninsula College. Currently she is showing “Near and Far”, mixed media figures by Claire Thorson at Open Ground Studios, 1230 Fremont Blvd Seaside, CA through February 22. Gallery hours are Tues & Thurs 1:00-5:00, Sat 12:00-4:00, or by appt.

Artist, Painter, Curator and gallery owner of the Art Loft, Karen Toole came into KZSC to talk about her artistic practice as well as her new studio gallery on 1319 Pacific Avenue, second floor in Santa Cruz. Last first Friday for August, the Art Loft presented “Local Scenes” a group show, featuring the work of Shmuel Thaler, Patrick Woodman, Barbara Bailey Porter, Wayne Adachi and Karen Toole. Come out this Friday for September’s Santa Cruz Art Tour and see the new show. Karen and I talked about her recent community garden project on West Cliff. On Saturday, September 7th at 10am there will be volunteer weeding and planting day. Bring gloves, a little hand trowel and a little serrated knife. Don’t for get sun screen, hat and water bottle. On June 3rd, Artist, Painter, Poet, Philosopher and brand new UCSC graduate, Sara True was the guest on KZSC’s Artist on Art to talk about about her two, one-person exhibitions, “I Guess This is Life” at the Eduardo Carrillo Senior Gallery in the Elena Baskin Visual Arts and at Santa Cruz Rehearsal Studios, “Don’t Bleed so Loud I can’t Hear the TV”.
The Santa Cruz Rehearsal Studios show reception was June 7th @ 118 Coral Street in downtown Santa Cruz. The show will be up for the month of June.

On March 25, 2013, local artists Pamela Wylie and Ellen O’Hanlon were guests on Artist on Art. They came into the KZSC studio to talk about their upcoming April First Friday painting exhibit, Painting Into Our Emerging Cosmological Identity.
Painting Into Our Emerging Cosmological Identity is an exciting culmination of a year long educational collaboration using the creative Transformational Painting Process led by artistic director of Anavami Center, Maijo with cosmological astrologer Rev. Pamela, group facilitator Ellen, and a group of 10 courageous painters.
These large format acrylic paintings will be shown at the Vital Body Therapy Center from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at 556 Ocean View Ave. in Santa Cruz right around the corner from the Shoppers Corner.
We also talked about the upcoming year-long series beginning May of 2013 through the summer of 2014, PAINTING into OUR EMERGING COSMOLOGICAL MYTHOLOGY.

Mother and daughter Artists, Mary and Mara Waldhorn were the guests for the last Artist on Art Interview of 2012, on December 27th.
Mary Waldhorn is an artist who has taught art for the past 35 years. She works in drawing and painting and has shown her work at The Washington Women’s Arts Center, The Art Barn, McGuire Fine arts, The Delaplane Arts Center and the Crestwood Gallery.
She will be giving classes on painting and meditation at Fox Haven Farms in Jefferson, Maryland, in February, 2013.

Mara Waldhorn is a local multi-media artist making furniture and video, teaching video and is the marketing and Communication Coordinator at Georgiana Bruce Kirby. This great college prep school is having their first Open House of the year, January 17. It is a family event and begins at 7PM. Click here to RSVP.
