Visual Artist and Educator, Margaret Niven, came into UCSC’s KZSC to talk about curating the upcoming  Radius Gallery Exhibition, RAIN PERCUSSIONS.

Tannery World Dance Cultural Center’s Artist in Residence, Jessa DeLancey and dancers Charley Fierro and Inbar Vanek talk about the upcoming world premiere of TIERRA PURA Corazón del Bosque / PURE EARTH Heart of the Forest.

Presented by The Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center, TIERRA PURA Corazón del Bosque / PURE EARTH Heart of the Forest performances are Saturday, October 3rd at 8pm, and Sunday, October 4th at 4pm at the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center Studio, 1060 River Street #111. Admission is $15 for Adults, and Sliding Scale for children/students/seniors.

The show was broadcasted live September 23, 2015 on 88.1FM and KZSC.org.

Cat Willis, Dancer, Performer, Educator, Entrepreneur

Screen Shot 2014-02-28 at 11.15.30 AMFounder and Director of Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center, Cat Willis came onto Artist on Art to talk about her work as well as her presentation at the third TEDxSantaCruz event March 8th, 2014 at the Hotel Paradox.

Cat has lived in Santa Cruz for over 13 years and originally from Rochester, N.Y. She began her formal dance education with Garth Fagan Dance, with whom she studied extensively for six years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance from SUNY Brockport. Her passion for cross cultural understanding, dance arts research, study, and performance has led her to Central America, the Caribbean, and West Africa. She has taught dance throughout Santa Cruz, including two years with Mountain Elementary School as resident choreographer. Her work through her dance company, DIASPORA, has been shown throughout Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Margaret Niven & Geoffrey Nelson

Artists, Margaret Niven & Geoffrey Nelson came onto Artist on Art to talk about their work and the upcoming Tannery Arts Lecture Series,  “Erotic Lounge: Explorations in Sensuality*.” The lecture series is produced by Margaret. The evening of performance and visual art is produced by Geoffrey with inspirations from similar aesthetics found at Burning Man and Storyville, the red-light district of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1897 through 1917.
“Erotic Lounge: Explorations in Sensuality*” takes place, Thursday, March 21st at 7:00pm at the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Art at the Tannery Arts Center  @ 1050 River St # 127, Santa Cruz. Fun and naughty shopping begins at 6:00 at the SCICA’s Enter Through the Gift Shop. $3-$5 donation requested at the door & free parking available.

Ann Hazels, Kirby Scudder & Crystal Kamoroff

Screen shot 2013-02-12 at 6.58.06 PMArtists Ann Hazels, Kirby Scudder & Crystal Kamoroff came onto Artist on Art to talk about the exhibition, Alter Eco: Exploring the Landscape of Change, a meditation on the natural world through the metaphorical lens of the landscape.

The Artist reception is February 16th beginning at 6pm. Ann Hazels and Kirby Scudder are co-directors of the Santa Cruz Institute for Contemporary Art at the Tannery Arts Center. Crystal Kamoroff‘s large site specific installation piece, I’m going to roll in and Float Away,  is featured in the show along with other local and regional artists: Ryan Jones, Steve Laufer, Melissa Cacioppo, Jody Alexander, Fanne Fernow, Michael Myers and Stan Welsh.

The Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Art shares contemporary art through public access to art, artists, and the creative process. It’s mission is to present outstanding contemporary art in all media, including visual art exhibitions, music, film, video and performance, that is deserving of public attention and has not been presented in depth to Santa Cruz audiences.
